1. Earn 1 point for every 10 km of distance for the event. For example, the classic route to Mt. Ellinor is a 20 km round trip. That hike would be worth 2 points 2. Earn 1 point for every 1,000 feet of elevation gained from the trailhead. For example, there are two trailheads for Mt. Ellinor, one a little higher up from the classic start. The first (classic) route gains 5,900 feet. Points for the classic route, then, would be 2 + 5.9 = 7.9 total. However, if you start the trail higher up, points are lost for both distance and elevation gain. The shorter route to the peak is 3K (.3 point) and gains 2,100 feet (2.1 points). .3 + 2.1 = 2.4 points. 3. The award for most points at the end of the fifth year of the program is yet to be determined. Suggestions, so far, include a $25 gift certificate for REI for most elevation points or most distance. We’re also considering a grand prize for most combined points, perhaps a $50 certificate for REI. Got ideas or suggestions for prizes? E-mail them to us. We’ll be deciding sometime in 2010. The “Pre-Registration” form is here or purchase the book at one of our weekend events. |

Bag peaks and earn points. Take part in any sanctioned IVV event, anywhere in the world. The only requirement is that the trail must go the top of any named summit, hill, mountaintop, point, crest, etc. |

Extreme I: We will not sell any new books for this program. If you haven’t finished Extreme I, there is no time limit; you can continue to work on this program until you finish. You may also start the new Extreme II program, but walks can only be used in one book. If you do an event once, you use it in one book. If you do an event twice, you can use the event once in each book. |
